Dementia Inclusive is a public service of a Colorado based not-for-profit senior services organization called Christian Living Communities (CLC). Through its Rhythms Dementia Services division, CLC created Dementia Inclusive as a public education and change-agent platform. Dementia Inclusive is fully embraced by the South Metro Denver Chamber of Commerce, a convening partner in bringing this initiative to area businesses.

The creation of this educational web portal is provided in part through the generous donation of the Peyton Family Foundation.

What is Dementia?

• Dementia is an umbrella term for diseases impacting the brain.
• Dementia is not a diagnosis. It is a general term used to describe symptoms that interfere with daily life. Though people often associate memory-loss with dementia, it is much more than memory loss. Dementia affects the whole brain. We can see signs of dementia in every aspect of the brain’s function: short-term memory, long-term memory, movement, thinking, planning and making decisions.
• Dementia can be reversible or irreversible depending on the cause. It some cases there are multiple causes.
• Dementia most often affects older adults, but people in their 40s, 50s and 60s can also have dementia. Dementia is not a normal part of aging.

Why should my business or organization get involved?

• This training program empowers employers and employees to understand dementia and to support those living with dementia – which could be family members, co-workers, bosses, customers, friends and families caring for someone living with dementia. Chances are your business will be touched by someone living with dementia.
• Inclusive businesses show their concern and support for the greater community, investing in education for their teams to better serve others.
• Inclusive businesses will show good community partnership while welcoming those who are often marginalized, allowing them to benefit from their goods or services.

How big of a commitment is it?

• It is as big as you want to make it.
• Dementia Aware is the first recognition you as an individual or your company/organization can achieve. It is a simple hour and half commitment and demonstrates a base knowledge of dementia.
• Dementia Inclusive is the next level recognition showing completion of learning modules by you or your organization/business. This training provides learning that easily applies to your life, work and community. These will include how to approach someone with dementia, communication tips and how to support those caring for someone living with dementia.
• The time commitment is up to you: do it all at once, or schedule modules over a few months. The program is self-paced, and the portal tracks progress for you so you can easily see how you and your team are doing.
